چکیده

Establishing reference conditions in rivers is important to understand environmental change and protect ecosystem integrity. Ranked third globally for fish biodiversity, the Mekong River has world’s largest inland fishery providing livelihoods, food security, protein local population. It therefore of paramount importance maintain water quality biotic integrity this ecosystem. We analyzed land use impacts on constituents (TSS, TN, TP, DO, NO3−, NH4+, PO43−) Lower Basin. then used a best-model regression approach with anthropogenic land-use as independent variables parameters dependent variables, define absence human activities (corresponding intercept value). From 2000–2017, population percentage crop, rice, plantation cover increased, while there was decrease upland forest flooded forest. Agriculture, urbanization, density were associated decreasing health In several sites, Thailand Laos had higher NH4+ concentrations compared conditions, Cambodia TP values than showing degradation. TSS dry season Cambodia, but lower wet Laos. This study shows how deforestation from agriculture conversion increasing urbanization pressure causes decline Basin, provides first characterization its tributaries.

Evidence of Water Quality Degradation in Lower Mekong Basin Revealed by Self-Organizing Map

To reach a better understanding of the spatial variability of water quality in the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB), the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) was used to classify 117 monitoring sites and hotspots of pollution within the basin identified according to water quality indicators and US-EPA guidelines. Four different clusters were identified based on their similar physicochemical characteristics. The m...

Assessing the Impact of Land Use Practices on Water Quality in the Kentucky River Drainage Basin

Recently, many publications have explored the utility of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote-sensed imagery to approximate the regional causes of water pollution (Basnyat 1999; Basnyat 2000; Griffith 2002). In such studies, water pollution data is placed in a geographic context to see what generalizations can be made about the impact of regional land use practices on water quality. ...

Water quality in the upper Han River basin, China: the impacts of land use/land cover in riparian buffer zone.

Vegetated riparian zones adjacent to rivers and streams, can greatly mitigate nutrients, sediment from surface through deposition, absorption and denitrification, yet, human activities primarily land use practices have dramatically reduced the capacity. In this study, 42 sampling sites were selected in the riverine network throughout the upper Han River basin (approximately 95,200 km(2)) of Chi...

Analysis of variation and relation of climate, hydrology and water quality in the lower Mekong River.

In order to determine the influence of climate and hydrology on water quality of the lower Mekong River, the long term monitoring data (from 1985 to 2004) of climatic, hydrological and water quality variables were analyzed. In general, water quality was 'good' or 'very good' for most of the investigated water quality parameters including DO, pH, conductivity, nitrate, phosphate and total phosph...
